Frequently Asked Questions
What are tax credit scholarships?
The Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA) creates a federal tax credit of up to $1,700 that eligible taxpayers can designate to qualified scholarship-granting organizations. Donors can begin designating funds beginning January 1, 2027. For more information, click here.
Does this cost me extra money?
No. The tax credit scholarship redirects up to $1,700 of taxes you already owe. Rather than that money going to the federal government, you direct it to a scholarship. You pay the same amount in taxes; only the destination changes.
Who is eligible to participate?
Any individual with an applicable federal tax liability may be eligible. You can even support one of our Partnership Schools in Ohio if you don’t live in Ohio. We will provide detailed eligibility guidance once the final regulations are published. Submit your pledge and our team will follow up with personalized information.
How do I know how much to pledge if I haven’t done my taxes yet?
Our goal is to recruit 500 pledges, and every dollar helps a student. We hope you give generously; the important thing is simply to pledge to give, so feel free to estimate a modest amount now with the hope of giving more when your taxes are complete.
Is this pledge binding?
No. This pledge is a non-binding statement of intent. We will collect your information now and contact you starting January 1, 2027, with everything you need to complete your official designation.
How will I fulfill my pledge?
You’ll make a payment to a scholarship granting organization and then get the money refunded when you file your taxes. We can walk you through it, or your tax preparer can help. We’ve been working with similar state tax credits for years, and we’re happy to put our experience to use to help with your questions. It’s easy to do, and it makes a world of difference for one of our students.
Who can I talk to for more information?
