Back to School for Funders and Friends

Eight guests were treated to a small and personal discussion regarding the network’s academic plan led by the Partnership’s Superintendent and Chief Academic Officer Kathleen Porter-Magee. The event was held at Our Lady Queen of Angels (OLQA) in East Harlem.

With seventeen years of experience working with charter and Catholic schools, Kathleen Porter-Magee’s discussion of the rigorous academic plan was peppered with insights specific to each network school.

Guests included funders and friends of the Partnership network, including individuals from the Tortora Sillcox Family Foundation, Kovner Foundation, Louis V. Gerstner Junior Foundation and the Robin Hood Foundation as well as donors new to the network schools.

Students greeted guests at the door and showed them to the recently renovated library where they were given insight into Kathleen’s academic plans, her observations and challenges in an informal setting. The dialogue was as wide-ranging as it was granular with test scores, goal-setting and outcomes discussed in great detail, with attendees asking thought provoking questions encouraging Kathleen to “get in to the weeds of the numbers.”

To round out the afternoon, the guests toured Our Lady Queen of Angels, visiting classrooms and speaking with student ambassadors who each described what was taking place in the class and getting a snapshot of student life.

Another round table lunch with our CAO is being planned in the new year, if you are interested in attending, please contact Bianca Vitarello at bianca.vitarello@www.pnyc.local.com or 646-794-3342.
